Image Myths
"Fear not but fear itself” by now we all heard this before but it easier said then done.
Lorna Bieber - Image Myths
Photographer Lorna Bieber shows images in this installation at Cooley gallery.
She uses pre-existing images and re-imagines their origin like in the origin of story telling. The copies become more haunting than the original and tempt the Ur Angst inherent in all of us to jump the monkey.
The narrative leads us into deep forested dioramas depicted in a grid like fashion of seemingly unrelated snap shots which are united by the same underlying brooding atmosphere.
Doom looms largely in the eyes of what seems like wolfs but are just enraged dogs at close up. The places feel familiar and could have jumped right out of some of the most famous children fairy tales. We don’t quite know what we stare at but at seems the landscapes stare back at us.
It’s the idyllic, the natural gone haywire.
