PDX Art: Martin Mohr at Victory Gallery, Portland
Martin Mohr's exhibit is not easy to digest even though the color pallet seems friendly and the gestured brush strokes are inviting. The over riding theme is of creation in its ever chnging drive and doom in its ever changing mode of recreration.
Barely recognizable human figures hang as if decomposed or just formong in mid air, dog or wolfs heads fletch teasingly their teeth at us in either a smile or a warning and a former beautiful mountain is somewhat disfigured by a grid maybe representing human interference.
It all seems to say bon Voyage beautiful world hello beautiful apocalypse.
Martin Mohr also seems to want to remind us that what we see in the solid world has been pre-envisioned in the minds palying field.
Maybe it is on the time to take resposibility for that.
I have to congratulate Victory Gallery for bringing international talent to Portland and I am curious how this theme develops in the near future.
well he is not alone with this sentiment and many of the new rising artist stars indulging in some artistic finger pointing. of course their are no solutions presented but plenty of warning incorporated in Martin's Art oeuvre.
