Portland in color at Una Gallery

Portland in Volor

Anger is a valid emotions and in the best case scenario it leads not to destruction but activism and self realization in spite of all perceived limitations. We are the witness and the observer of life but also can be its creator, In this case at UNA gallery the people have taken their power and used it in a most creative way to illuminate themselves and with it their own beauty . This is the future of art as it steps out of victimhood and dependency and actually shapes the environment around us and how we absorb overserve and consume art.

Since the summer of 2017, Celeste Noche Photography has been collecting the stories and experiences of creatives of color living in Portland, through the photographic blog series Portland in Color. The project is simple and honest in nature, yet yields vulnerable and empowering portraits of artists actively creating and organizing in a town deemed the whitest city in America.

The portrait series showcases folks with a multiplicity of disciplines and backgrounds; from visual artists, musicians, and astrologers, to writers, facilitators and organizers. Everyone featured has been additionally invited to activate the space with their talent, through a series of events and workshops throughout the month.

The exhibit and opening event will include visual works by Sashiko Yuen, Maya Vivas and Saria Abubo Dy; as well as live performances by Rizzo Paine, Ev'Yan Whitney, and Carlos the Rollerblader.

Special thanks to Citizens Photo, After Bruce, New Deal Distillery, Trader Joe's - Portland,OR, and New Seasons Market for their support.
